Know someone whose story deserves to be told?

Queer Southern stories are all around us. In our neighborhoods, at our favorite gathering places, in our workplaces, and throughout the communities we call home.

Some stories are loud and proud. Others are quietly extraordinary. We want to hear about all of them.

Nominate someone who helps make queer life in the South what it is.

  1. Tell us about someone. Share a little about who they are and why you'd love to see their story featured.
  2. We'll review the nomination. We look for stories that reflect the diversity of queer Southern experiences.
  3. We'll reach out privately. If we'd like to explore their story, we'll invite them to participate. There's no obligation to say yes.

Their story. Their choice.

Frequently asked questions

Who can you nominate?

Maybe it's a local artist, a drag performer, an organizer, a small business owner, a neighbor, a friend, or someone who's simply living their life authentically in the South.

They don't have to be famous, have a large following, or have accomplished something extraordinary.

Their story matters because it's theirs.

Does the person have to live in Northwest Arkansas?

Not necessarily! Oi Am Queer is beginning its storytelling journey in Northwest Arkansas, so we're currently prioritizing people with meaningful ties to the area. That could mean they live here, grew up here, work here, create here, or have helped shape our local queer community.

What happens after I submit a nomination?

We'll review your submission and consider whether the person's story aligns with our current editorial focus. If we'd like to explore it further, we'll work toward a private, respectful invitation. Not every nomination will lead to an interview or published story.

Will the person know I nominated them?

We won't publicly share who submitted a nomination. If we decide to reach out, we may ask you whether you're comfortable with us mentioning your name. We won't identify you as the nominator without your permission.

What kinds of stories are you looking for?

Stories about living, loving, creating, working, building community, finding belonging, and navigating life as a queer person in the South. We're interested in joy, challenges, friendships, family, identity, disability, art, and everyday experiences. Your story doesn't have to be dramatic or extraordinary to matter.

Can I nominate myself?

Absolutely! But we'd love for you to use our Share Your Story form instead. That gives you the opportunity to introduce yourself and tell us what you'd like to share in your own words.

Does being nominated guarantee an interview or feature?

No. Each nomination is thoughtfully considered based on our editorial priorities, available capacity, and the person's interest in participating. Being nominated never creates an obligation to participate, and no story will be published without the participant's informed consent.
